An important feature of these camp-meeting grounds is the surrounding landscape. The idea is that worshippers connect with God in nature (I like that); the availability of water and the presence of a "sacred canopy" of trees played a major role in the selection of the sites and often determined the name of the retreats. The  Poplar Springs Campground combined both its water source (four abundant springs) and type of tree in its name.
